Aloha! My name is Irina. I am Realtor on the Big Island of Hawaii. Working with my clients I found out that the main reason that moves people to Hawaii is climate. Hawaii is well known because of the climate! There are six inhabited islands in the State of Hawaii: Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Hawaii. Niihau (not on the map) is privately owned. Kahoolawe is controlled by the military and not inhabited. Each Island has a unique name.
We live in a warm consistent climate and feel comfortable and stress free. Hawaii Island is called Big Island. The Island of Hawaii is built from five separate shield volcanoes that erupted sequentially, one overlapping the other. The island is 93 miles (150 km) across and has a land area of 4,028 square miles (10,430 km2). Population in 2010 was 185,079. There were 64,382 households in the county. Pop. density was 45.9/sq. mi (17.7 /km2). There were 82,324 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (20/mi²).
Warm Air and Humidity create a unique comforting climate. Out of 5 major climates in the world: Tropical (rainforest, monsoon, savanna), Dry (desert, steppe), Temperate (mediterranean, humid subtropical oceanic), Continental, Polar (tundra, icecap) you will experience 4! It’s a tropical paradise! Choose a climate for your dream home!
The county seat and largest city on the island is Hilo. There are 43,263 residents living in the city in 2010. The largest industry is tourism. Resort areas primarily are located on the western coast of the island in the North Kona and South Kohala districts.
