In 7 out of 10 conversations with my clients I am asked about local businesses on the Big Island. What kind of business are people in that can afford living in Hawaii? What business can I do on the Big Island?
I found this question interesting to answer and decided to make a video. I have been gathering the material for my video since January 2020. The pandemic situation closed the state and visitors flow to Hawaii at the end of March 2020.
According to 2nd Quarter 2020 Economic Report 78,000 jobs statewide were lost in tourism-intensive industries (hospitality, trade, and transportation). Considering the fact that tourism has been the largest industry in Hawaii since statehood in 1959 I think it’s a big number.
The vast majority of the Big Island’s visitors stay in the Kailua-Kona area that started to remind of a ghost town during a pandemic.
